What Makes Patch Digitizing Different?
Embroidered patches are standalone pieces — they need to hold their shape, maintain crisp edges, and look sharp up close without the support of a garment underneath. This means the digitizing must be significantly denser and more precise than standard garment embroidery.
Patches typically use a twill or felt base fabric that requires heavy underlay, high stitch density, and a clean border finish — usually a merrow edge (overlock stitching around the perimeter) or a die-cut edge with a heat seal backing for iron-on patches.

Common Questions
Patches are standalone pieces that must hold their shape without a garment underneath. This requires significantly higher stitch density, stronger underlay, and precise border stitching. A file digitized for a t-shirt will not produce a clean patch — the density will be too low and the edges won't hold.
Yes — we include the border/outline stitching in the file. For merrow edge patches, we add the perimeter run stitch that guides the overlock machine. For die-cut patches, we include the cutting line stitches. Everything is in one file so your production process is straightforward.
We digitize for all backing types — iron-on (heat seal), velcro (hook-and-loop), sew-on, and plain twill. The backing type affects how we finish the edge in the file. Just tell us your backing preference when you order and we'll optimize accordingly.
We can digitize patches as small as 1.5" across, though detail and text legibility at that size depends on your design. Very small patches need simplified artwork — fine details and small text tend to fill in at tiny scales. We'll advise you on any adjustments before digitizing begins.
