How It Works
- Drop the file, or click to browse โ it's read and decoded byte-by-byte inside your browser and never uploaded anywhere.
- See the stitch count, design size, color changes, and jump/trim counts read directly from the actual stitch data.
- Preview the stitch paths on a zoomable, pannable canvas, color block by color block, and download the preview as a PNG.
Good to Know
- DST files don't store thread colors โ only needle movements and color-change stops. Preview colors are for telling color blocks apart, not for matching real thread shades.
- The preview draws stitch paths, not simulated thread โ actual sewn texture, density and pull depend on fabric and stabilizer.
- Very large or dense files may take a moment to render since every stitch is drawn.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is my DST file uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is decoded entirely inside your browser using JavaScript. For a commercial design that matters โ your file never touches our servers.
Why doesn't the preview show my real thread colors?
The DST format physically can't store thread colors, only needle movements and color-change stops. This tool gives each color block a distinct display color so you can see the separation, not match actual threads.
What does the stitch count tell me?
Stitch count drives both digitizing price and machine run time. This viewer reads the true stitch count directly from the file's stitch data, matching what digitizing software reports. Jump and trim points shown are an estimate, since DST doesn't store a separate trim command โ only consecutive jump moves, which this tool groups to approximate trims.
Can I edit or resize the DST here?
No โ this is a viewer only. DST files scale poorly since stitch density doesn't adjust automatically; resizing more than about 10% usually needs re-digitizing from the original artwork.
